PHOEBE FEVER
If you don’t know her name, you’ll definitely know her work, because Phoebe Barrett, aka Phoebe Fever, is the master of creating dewy, fresh and flawless beauty. Behind every save-worthy makeup look on her account is an intuitive sense of artistry and skill that is an ode to her creativity and love for making her clients feel confident within themselves. The soon-to-be first time mother spoke to us about the importance of sticking to a beauty routine that makes her feel herself and tells us why she has Elle Effect on rotation no matter what the month or season.
Tell us a little bit about how you got into being a makeup artist, was there a defining moment when you knew this was a career you wanted to pursue?
My Dad is a fashion photographer and when I was in high school, he arranged for me to come and assist his main make-up artist. I fell in love with the idea of being creative, helping others feel beautiful and surrounding myself with hard working, interesting people. School wasn’t for me, so I dropped out and enrolled in a makeup course as soon as I could and I have been working within the beauty industry ever since.
You’re an avid user of the Elle Effect Self-Tanning Mousse, can you tell us what you love about Elle Effect?
I love how reliable Elle Effect Tan Mousse is! It’s so easy to use on both myself and my clients, I never have to worry about whether it will turn out even, because you can basically apply the mousse with your eyes closed. It’s honestly the best streak-free self-tan I have ever used.
At Elle Effect, we’re grounded on the philosophy that beauty goes beyond how you look; it’s how you feel. How does having a tan make you feel?
I feel nostalgic when wearing the Elle Effect tanning mousse. I’m an outdoors girl and having a tan reminds me of being adventurous, spending long days on the beach with my girlfriends, eating fruit while sitting in the sand and watching the sunset in your cozzies with salty hair. It takes me to a place where I feel so happy, giving me an inner glow.
How important has it been for you to not only upkeep but enhance your beauty routine while pregnant?
Starting a family has always been the biggest dream for my partner and I, when we did fall pregnant, I realised how important self-care and loving yourself truly is. Your body is no longer just your own so you become very aware of what products you are using and being as healthy as you can for both you and your baby. It’s also such a major transitional time, so for me it was important to stick to a beauty routine that made me feel like myself. I always take the time to exfoliate, moisturise and tan regularly, these are the things that make me feel beautiful and it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a good self-tan when your body is changing so rapidly.
Everyone has a different reason as to why they use self-tan; to achieve a golden glow, to boost confidence, to blur imperfections, the list goes on. What does self-tan do for you and why is it part of your weekly beauty routine?
I love that there is now a safe way to have a good tan without harming yourself baking under the sun. Now that I’ve found a self-tan that gives the same effect as a day or two on the beach, why would I bother damaging my skin? No one ever questions whether or not my tan is real when I have a couple of layers of Elle Effect on and it always helps me feel summery and beautiful.
What are your favourite beauty products that help to prolong your tan?
I love a good oil to keep the moisture in your skin once you’ve applied and washed off any excess self-tan, something coconutty is always a dream. I am obsessed with the Elle Effect Wash and Exfoliating Mitt to use in between tans, I have to say I use this way more often than I should, I just love the way it makes my skin feel!
How would you describe your everyday beauty look?
Minimal, fresh and enhanced. Give me a tinted moisturiser, a brushed-up brow and a rosy balm for both lips and cheek and I am good to-go.
What are 3 of your favourite beauty products of all time?
I can’t live without Biologi Br Organic Rose Hip Oil, Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum and of course my Elle Effect Self-Tan Mousse.
